These murals used to brighten the halls of the school I went to in Anchorage. Posting them here for the curious, and folks who never got to see them or can’t quite remember what they looked like :)
The one in the back stairwell was by far my favorite. I put a lot of effort into getting an element of it incorporated into one of new art pieces that is on the outside of the building. I never did find out if it ended up in the final design the artist contracted to make them put together.
And the rest…
Thanks for taking these, and posting them. They really took me back. Polaris version 1.0 was a special place.
days of yore surely
I know it’s a long time ago now, but thank you for posting these. I was a student here since kindergarten, and was in sixth grade when the remodel was done–it never felt the same, so much of the whimsy and spirit of the place felt sucked out. I still have dreams of Polaris ver1, of these murals, and it means so much to me to see them now and remind myself, yes, these did exist! I’m turning 27 this year, and will surely never forget these gorgeous pieces of art that were so integral to me when I was a child.
